Exam Name: Gujarat State Eligibility Test (GSET)
Educational qualification:
- Only those candidates are eligible to appear in the GSET who have completed/are studying in the final year or semester of a UGC specified Master’ s degree.
- Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (General) (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree OR equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognised by UGC in Humanities (including languages) and Social Science, Computer Science & Applications, Sciences are eligible for this Test. The Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to non-creamy layer / Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/ Physically Handicapped (PH)/ Visually Handicapped (VH) category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this Test.
Exemption from GSET
- Exemption from GSET will be as per decisions taken by the UGC and Government of Gujarat from time to time.
- NET/SLET/SET shall remain the minimum eligibility condition for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professors in Universities/Colleges/Institutions. Provided, however, that candidates, who are or have been awarded a Ph.D. Degree in accordance with the “University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree), Regulation 2009, shall be exempt from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/SLET/SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in Universities/Colleges/Institutions.”
- The candidates who have passed the UGC/CSIR JRF examination prior to 1989 are also exempted from appearing in NET.
- For SET Candidates: The candidates who have cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET) accredited by UGC for eligibility for Assistant Professor held prior to 1st June 2002, are exempted from appearing in NET, being eligible to apply for Assistant Professor anywhere in India. For SET held from 1st June 2002 onwards, the qualified candidates are eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor only in the universities/ colleges belonging to the state from where they have cleared their SET.
Application Fee:
- General / Other Backward Classes (OBC Non-creamy layer) Candidates : Rs.800/- + Rs. 25 (Bank Fee) = Rs. 825/-
- SC/ST/PH/VH candidates : Rs.700/- + Rs. 25 (Bank Fee) = Rs. 725/-
Gujarat SET 2017 Selection Procedure
- A person who scores 60% or more in the Gujarat-SLET examination will be considered ‘Gujarat SET passed’ or ‘Gujarat-SLET qualified’. This will be the qualifying marks for all categories.
- Negative Marks: There shall be no negative marks for the test.
Examination Structure & Scheme:

- Paper-I shall be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate. 60 (sixty) multiple choice questions of 2 marks each will be given, out of which the candidate would be required to answer any 50 (fifty). In the event of the candidate attempted more than 50 questions, the first 50 questions attempted by the candidate would be evaluated.
- Paper-II shall consist of 50 objective type compulsory questions based on the subject selected by the candidate. Each question will carry 2 marks.
- Paper-III will consist of 75 objective type compulsory questions from the subject selected by the candidate. Each question will carry 2 marks.
- Syllabus of Test: All questions of Paper-II & Paper-III will be compulsory, covering entire syllabus (including all electives, without options). Syllabi for all Gujarat SET (GSET) subjects can be downloaded from the Gujarat SET Website www.gujaratset.ac.in.
- No Negative Marking.
Procedure & Criteria for Declaration of Result:
- Step I: Minimum marks to be obtained in Gujarat SET (GSET) for considering a candidates for eligibility for lectureship. The Candidates are required to obtain following minimum marks separately in Paper-I, Paper-II & Paper-III as given below:

- Step II: Amongst those candidates who have cleared step I, a merit list will be prepared subject-wise & category-wise using the aggregate marks of all the three papers secured by such candidates..
- Step III: Top 15% candidates (for each subject & category), from the merit list mentioned under step II, will be declared Gujarat SET (GSET) qualified for eligibility for lectureship.
How to apply:
- Candidate has to visit the GSET website to fill up the Application Form Online. Please fill correct information carefully in the online application form and follow the on screen instructions for filling up application form. Confirm that your Name, Subject, Centre, Category, Physically or Visually disability, recent passport size photo scanned in JPEG format and not be more then 100kb and all other details filled are correct. Otherwise no correction will be made after you submit the application form. Gujarat SET Office will not be responsible for loss arising out of these to the candidates. After successful submission and confirmation, the candidate should take printout of filled online Application Form and Computerised Bank Challan on A-4 size paper only. It is mandatory for the candidate to keep and preserve printout of filled online Application Form with him/her for future reference.After Online Registration and downloading online application form and Bank Challan to pay examination fee, Candidates can deposit the requisite fee in any branch of Bank of Baroda, on next working day of online registration & generating the challan from GSET Website.

- Read the instructions.
- Apply for Registration.
- Fill and edit Gujarat SET 2017 online application form.
- Upload photograph and signature.
- Review and verify your application.
- Print bank challan
- Deposit fee in SBI bank
- Update challan information on official website
- Print confirmation page
- Submit it to District Education Officer.
